CANCELLED–Historic Logging, Railroads, and the Development of Grand Canyon Village

 Join AAHS for a 2-day in-depth tour of historic sites from Flagstaff to Grand Canyon Village. State Park Rangers, Forest Archeologists, Grand Canyon National Park Historical Architects, and NAU Archeology Field School Director and graduate students will provide insight into sites in northern Arizona. Highlights will include a tour of the historic Milton site in Flagstaff by Riordan Mansion State Park Rangers, stops in the Coconino and Kaibab forest with forest archeologists**, a visit to an active Historical Archeology field school directed by Northern Arizona University, and a tour by Grand Canyon Historical Architects of the development and history of the Grand Canyon and the Grand Canyon Village National Historic Landmark District including stops at El Tovar, Hopi House, the Livery Stables, Mule Barn, Grand Canyon Railroad Depot, and the NHL powerhouse. 

The fee to AZ State Parks for the Milton Tour is $16 a person. Participants who do not have an America the Beautiful pass or other public lands pass will be required to pay admission at Grand Canyon National Park. Admission to Grand Canyon is $35, is good for seven days, and includes both the North and South Rim. Grand Canyon Annual Passes and America the Beautiful passes are available at the park entrance station. 

The trip is limited to 20 people, participants are responsible for entrance fees and meals and accommodations. To sign up for the trip, or for more information, email aahs1916@gmail.com.

**Stops at locations in the Coconino and Kaibab Forests are still being determined. Heavy snowfall has caused some deterioration of road conditions, ground truthing will be made prior to the trip.
