Homolovi State Park & Rock Art Ranch

Join AAHS current president and retired Arizona State Museum Archaeologist, Rich Lange, for a 2-day tour of the Ancestral Puebloan sites at Homolovi State Park and petroglyphs at Rock Art Ranch. Rich conducted survey and research at Homolovi from 1983-2008.
On Sunday, September 10th, the group will meet at noon at Homolovi State Park. This park has many pueblos, and the group will drive to different locations over the afternoon. Following the tour, everyone will have an opportunity to meet for a group dinner at the Turquoise Room in the historic La Posada Hotel, a Harvey House Hotel designed by Mary Colter.On Monday, September 11th, the group will meet at 8:00 am at Rock Art Ranch south of Holbrook. The group will have an opportunity to view the ranch collection, a small pueblo in the vicinity, a Navajo homestead, and many rock art panels. The tour should finish around noon.The tour will include moderate hiking, most terrain is level. Uphill hiking to view rock art on buttes is optional.  High clearance vehicle suggested or carpooling to access some pueblo sites is an option.

The trip is limited to 20 people, and you must be an AAHS member to participate. Participants are responsible for entrance fees, meals, and accommodations. To register, email: aahs1916@gmail.com 

The weekend before the tour, the Hubbell-Joe Rug, the world’s largest single-loom Navajo rug, commissioned by Hubbell in 1932, will be unveiled in the museum adjacent to the La Posada. The Affeldt Mion Museum is open 7 days a week from 9 am-5 pm. The museum is worth seeing. Arrive early on Sunday to self-tour before meeting the group at Homolovi State Park at noon. RV and Tent camping is available at Homolovi State Park.
