Romero Ruins – Beyond the Path
December 9, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm MST
$7.00
Romero Ruins in Catalina State Park is one of the largest and most significant archaeological sites within the northern Tucson Basin. The ruins are the remains of a Hohokam village that were occupied between A.D. 500 and A.D. 1450. Also visible at the site are the remains of more recent structures built by rancher Francisco Romero and extensive prehistoric agricultural fields. Bill Gillespie, retired archaeologist with the Coronado National Forest Service, will lead a tour of the site and it’s surrounds. We will meet at Catalina State Park at 9:00 am. The tour will last until around noon so you should bring a snack, water, and wear hiking shoes. We will cover a couple of miles of not too strenuous walking. There is a $7.00 per vehicle entrance fee for the Park. Tour limited to 20 people. To reserve your place contact Katherine Cerino.
